Local Women’s Handicraft Capsule Collection
We are so proud and excited to be working with Nasreen Sheikh, and incredible young Nepalese woman who has made it her mission to lift women up who have been marginalized and exploited, to give them opportunity, skills, and a sense of dignity and to spread that model of empowerment across the world.
Nasreen Sheikh founded Local Women’s Handicraft as a small shop in Kathmandu when she was still a teenager. Having already survived working for two years as a child laborer in a sweatshop, she opened LWH to take control of her own destiny and give herself the kind of hope she’d previously never thought possible. Nasreen soon began to train local women to make handcrafted textiles they could sell at her shop. As she saw the women gain confidence and light return to their eyes, she realized she had the opportunity to spread this work across the world and empower disadvantaged women everywhere. Local Women’s Handicraft is a fair trade, eco-conscious collective of women who create unique fashion and decor in Nepal. Their mission is to help empower and educate women, enabling them to write their own destiny. They provide a safe space for women who have escaped abusive practices in the textile industry and other injustices in their local communities. Their manufacturing facilities allow these women to learn new skills and crafts as a group to help heal and rehabilitate their spirits. Through raising awareness and making fashion in an ethical way, their goal is to end childhood slavery, forced marriage, and other injustices against women.
We are thrilled to be able to bring some of their beautiful products to you in our Local Women’s Handicraft Capsule Collection. The products are all made by the amazing women in Nepal with recycled sari cotton. We love the products and hope you will too. Each product sold supports these amazing women and the mission of Local Women’s Handicraft.
